Students have responsibility of keeping their school tidy. This involves sweeping and removing leaves from the paths around the classrooms and dormitories, keeping the grass cut. All in a days work. No time off for this, it has to fit into their normal day or at weekends.

This week we start a computer club at a school. We have provided the curriculum based on our knowledge of the students. It will be run by an IT teacher from the school. If you recall the tree falling on the dormitory in August 19, and the water damage Sept/Oct 19. The dormitory was repaired and painted in time for the start of the new school year in November 19. But the replacement bunk beds have not arrived. The girls have to study, do homework and sleep on

The morning walk to school. There is no school bus. No mum’s blocking the road in their 4×4’s. It you have normal schedule, classes start at 7am. If you have extra tuition is starts at 6am. School hours are 7-11am and 1-5pm.

In between lessons in the morning. Time for a chat and a smile. According to a recent survey of 15-year olds they really value their education in Cambodia.
Every school year we start with an elaborate opening ceremony. There are many guests, speakers and presentations. There is dancing in traditional Khmer style. All the teachers in their official uniform. All the students will be there – a lot of people in attendance. It is a major event.
